The Goal Bulk Uploader helps you move your goals to plans in Cascade in an easy and fast way so that you can get started with executing your strategy straightaway. No matter which tool your team was using previously, we can do the heavy lifting for you in just a few steps so that you can save your time and effort to focus on aligning your team to achieve your vision.
Step 1: Set up plan structure and custom fields & Download the import template
The goal bulk uploader helps you import goals into an existing plan in bulk. Add a new plan from the '+' icon from the planner page if you haven't created your plan yet (Note: only users with Organization permission can create new plans).
In order for Cascade to understand what types of goals you'll be importing and what custom fields you need, you need to set up the plan structure and custom fields for this plan. Check out this article to learn more about setting up plan structure and custom fields.
Once you get your goal templates and custom fields configured, navigate to the three dots option from the planner and click 'Import'. Download the import template from the popup modal.
Step 2: Add your data to the template file
Open the import template that you download from Step 1. You can now fill in your goals into the import sheet using Excel, Google Sheet, or any other spreadsheet tools that you use.
Each row in your import sheet represents a new goal. You can fill out the following fields for the new goals:
-
ID: Reference IDs for your new goals in the import sheet. IDs must start with 'G', for example, G001, G002.
-
Template: Select the goal template from the dropdowns.
-
Title: The title of your new goals.
-
Parent Focus Area(s): Select from the dropdown if there is any direct focus area alignment for the new goals. Note that if your goal is not directly linked to a focus area (i.e. it is a child goal of another goal), you can leave this column blank and you only need to fill out the 'Parent Goal(s)' column.
-
Parent Goal(s): If there is any direct goal alignment for the new goal, you can reference Goal IDs within the system or IDs within your import sheet to set up parent goal alignment for the new goals.
-
Initial, Target, Unit: Set up tracking metrics for your new goals. Initial and target only accept numeric values.
-
More Details: Fill in the 'More Details' field of your new goals if needed.
-
Start date, Due date: Must be in ISO data format, e.g. 2021-07-01.
-
Weight: Select from the dropdowns to set up the goal weights for the new goals.
-
Private Goal: Select 'Yes' if you wish to set up the goal as private
-
Owner: A comma-separated list of user's full names to set up the owner and co-owners of the goals. The first user will be the owner of the goal and the rest will be co-owners.
-
Tracking Type, Tracking Flow, Completion Criteria, Tracking Curve: You can select from the dropdowns if you would like to customize the tracking settings for your new goals. You can leave the fields blank if you are happy with the default settings. By default, the new goals will be manually tracked, with a Tracking Flow of 'Higher is better', with Completion Criteria 'Target reached' and Tracking Curve set to 'Steps' tracking.
-
Custom Fields: Fill in the values for custom fields if applicable. You need to fill out the corresponding custom attributes based on the 'Template' that you choose.
Step 3: Upload your import sheet to Cascade
Once you are done, save your import sheet as CSV. Upload your CSV file back to Cascade and click on 'Next'.
Once your goals have been successfully imported, you will see the confirmation on the screen. We will let you know if there is any data that we are unable to process so that you can fix it in your import sheet.
